Planes Assist

Initialize Planes

Uses mix of points guides gathered from initial patterns setup and angles of pattern boundaries to spawn planes that can later on be edited by hand.

Angle Threshold – value 0-1 corresponds to a range of degrees from 0°-180°. Pattern’s border points with angle below threshold will spawn corners for initialized planes.

Corners Threshold – distance per each pattern from top and bottom to the middle of each pattern at which corners for initialized planes will be spawned.

Manual Control – any single vertex in Retopo Planes Collection will override corners generated with Initialize Planes.

Auto Fill Prepass (Point Guides Pass)

Creates cuts in planes at point guides (yellow and green crosses) for each pattern separately.

Note: Result might need to be adjusted by hand as generated cuts might mismatch points on connected patterns.

Recommended workflow would be to output generated planes at this stage and polish the result in edit mode if needed.

Auto Fill

Creates cuts in planes across all connected patterns where missing points are indicated (red squares).

Note: This feature may be a bit slow with bigger, denser meshes, so it’s recommended to check Auto Fill once planes in Retopo Planes collection are layed out.

With simpler meshes it can work interactively.

Auto Fill Max Iterations

Maximum amount of passes that Auto Fill will run to scan garment for missing cuts in connected patterns.

Default value of '5′ will work for most cases. With some very intricate designs, higher values might be necessary

Also in some edge cases prevents Auto Fill from spiraling into infinite loop.

Output Generated Meshes

Outputs planes that can be edited by hand once modifier is applied.

Recommended workflow would be to create a duplicate of object with Retopo Planes modifier, then with Output Generated Planes checked – apply the modifier and finally replace old planes object from Retopo Planes Collection with this newly created mesh.
